BREAKING: Many feared dead in fuel tanker crash in UNIZIK, Awka

Reports reaching us indicate that a fuel tanker has just lost control at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Junction of Awka, the Anambra State capital, killing an unspecified number of people.

The tanker crashed into three passenger buses, with one fully loaded. Many people are feared dead. Officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, have arrived the scene and are trying to evacuate victims to hospital.

A source at the scene said the remains of the dead have been deposited at the Anambra State University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, where all the injured victims are also receiving treatment.

A policeman, and an official of the FRSC who evacuated the victims to hospital said many of the injured victims were still unconscious.
